Field
"This is a photograph of a field. It represents freedom of speech and actions, where no one has power over you. When you're homeless, people look down on you for your situation. Nature makes me feel peaceful and it's comforting and nature can't be controlled. This photo tells the story that I am in charge of my life and every decision I make leads to my future."
Picture
Whyte Avenue
"This is a photograph of Whyte Avenue street sign. Whyte Avenue has lots of resources for homeless youth, but can create unsafe situations, for example the crow and other youth. This photo tells my personal experience, I've used the resources to the best of my ability, but the other youth have made it unpleasant. They don't take responsibility or take care of themselves."
Picture
The Armory
"This is a photograph of me on the stairs at the Armory. The Armory is a safe place for youth because of security, staff and rules, but it doesn't have much funding so it relies on donations and there isn't a guarantee it will always be around, but it's heavily relied on by youth. There are negative relationships with cops, like interrogations. There needs to be more verbal and emotional support. This photo tells the story that people look down on homeless youth. This is not okay because they need to know they are important and the city will change the future."
Picture
House
"This is a photo of a couch, a blanket, comfy pillows, television remote and a photo of Edmonton. It represents comfort in your own space. It feels safe. This photo tells the story that home to me is a safe environment filled with personal belongings. When your'e homeless, your possessions become a part of you."
